(Hanover, PA-LititzDailyNews.com)-The first eaglet emerged from its shell high over Codorus State Park in Pennsylvania yesterday, according to a message from the site that hosts the live video stream from cameras mounted near the pair of nesting bald eagles. The fuzzy, grey eaglet is visible frequently for short periods as the adult birds shift position and trade places.

Speculation of an imminent hatch began on Saturday, when an image captured via the live stream camera appeared to show evidence of a pip, the first break in the shell by an emerging bird.

Onlookers also speculated since Saturday morning that an eaglet might soon emerge due to an apparent change in activity by the pair of adult eagle parents. The birds appeared to be turning the eggs more often, and adjusting their position on the pair of eggs more frequently.

The first hatch was estimated to take place on Friday, March 17, 2017, according to HdOnTap, who hosts the live stream. Two eggs were laid in the next last month. The first egg was laid on February 10, and a second egg followed on February 13. That means the second egg could hatch within the next few days.

Observers were eager for the eaglet to emerge, as posts to the Hanover Eagle Live Cam website message board made over the weekend attest.

“Lots of egg rolls today.. Maybe something Getting ready to PIP…” wrote Barbara Dumbaugh Semroska around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Codurus State Park is a 3,500-acre park located in the hills of southern York County. Those interested in observing are advised to stay at least 1,000 feet away from bald eagle nests to reduce stress on the nesting eagles, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission website. For those who plan to visit an eagle’s nest, the PA Game Commission has published important information on how to do so on their eagle etiquette page. Viewers may observe via the nest via multiple live stream cameras for a close-up view from various angles.
