Lititz Endless Summer a Swimming Success
Lititz National Night Out Celebration Makes a Splash in the Community
High temperatures and low humidity led to a large turnout at Lititz Springs Pool last night for the Lititz Endless Summer event, the local version of the National Night Out.
“We must have had 1,500 to 2,000 people,” said pool director Craig Wagaman. “People were coming and going all night long.
The annual evening event, sponsored by the Lititz Borough Police Department, featured free swimming, food, and activities for children, plus a chance to get up close and personal with the local police officers, firefighters, and other first responders. For kids especially, that can be a plus, especially if they later encounter emergency personnel under different circumstances.
“It’s enjoyable in this light to have kids come up and approach us because other times, you know, if we’re doing our job, we might be at their house in the midst of a tragedy,” said Officer PJ Savage, one of the coordinators of the event. “They’re not going to see us in the same light as where they see us here. So I think it’s important for us to interact with them out here at a party like this.”
Lititz firefighter Doug Stoner showed those willing to climb up into the massive truck how the thermal imaging camera helps firefighters find people in buildings by sensing their body heat.
In addition to meeting the officers and Lititz firefighters, children also enjoyed a demonstration by the Manheim Borough Canine team.

Judging by the smiles as families left the event, it was a swimming success.
“I thought it was awesome,” said Jess McEvoy, who brought her children to the event. “It’s a really nice thing to do for the community.”
McEvoy also liked the fact that it allowed her a convenient opportunity to contribute to the community as well through a donation of non-perishable food items to the Warwick Community Chest.
Kids enjoyed the event, although each seemed to have a different idea of what was their favorite feature.
Alexis Pelland, 11, and Carly McEvoy, 12, both had a great time on the slide and swimming in the
Ally Hall, 5, enjoyed the ups and downs of the bouncy house, but for Chase McEvoy, 5, the most fun was the funnel cake.
“It’s a great way to just bring everybody together,” said Officer Savage.
