The Warwick ice hockey offense dominated while the defense shut down Dallastown scorers on Monday night as Kyle Joseph and Bryce Zimmerman each scored two goals to lead the Warriors to a 9-2 victory over the Wildcats at the Lancaster Ice Rink. Warwick goalie Mark Howland turned in a stellar performance, turning away 26 shots on goal. The win brought Warwick’s record to 2-5 in CPIHL Tier 1 and 3-5 overall.

Austin White got Warwick on the scoreboard first after when he beat Dallastown goalie Drew Mills at 12:49, and the Warriors led 1-0. Kyle Joseph scored his first goal of the night at the 4:40 mark, and Warwick went up 2-0. Alec White scored the Warriors third goal with only :44 seconds left on the clock in the first period, and Warwick headed to the locker room leading 3-0. All three goals were unassisted.

The Warriors offense was even more aggressive in the second period, scoring 5 goals. Lucas Styles found the net at 11:14 on an assist from Kyle Joseph, bringing the score to 4-0. Warwick scored again at 9:02, when Zack Young beat Mills after a pass from Cooper Hess.

Warwick goalie Mark Howland held Dallastown scoreless for over 32 minutes. The Wildcats finally got on the scoreboard at 7:26 in the second, when Christian Duvall scored on a pass from Aidan Hostetter, bringing the score to 5-1.

The Warriors answer just 13 seconds later, when Austin and Alec White assisted Luke Mariano, who scored at the 7:13 mark, bringing it to 6-1 Warriors. Dallastown replied with a second goal less than a minute later, when Ben Kelkis score at 6:33 on a pass from Kalen Patterson, bringing the score to 6-2 in favor of Warwick.

At 2:32 in the second, Bryce Zimmerman scored for Warwick, upping their lead to 7-2. With only 1:11 left on the clock, Kyle Joseph scored his second goal of the night, and Cooper Hess got his second assist on the night. The Warriors were up 8-2 when the buzzer sounded to end the second period.

The third period saw only a lone goal scored by Warwick, an unassisted goal by Bryce Zimmerman, his second for the night. That brought the final score to 9-2, in favor of Warwick. Dallastown’s record is now 2-3-2 in Tier 1 and 3-3-2 overall.

Even though the Warriors were outshot by Dallastown 28 to 23, Warwick’s Mark Howland denied  four of the top Tier 1 scorers, including Ben Kelkis, who was held to a single goal.

Warwick also did an excellent job killing penalties, as Dallastown was unable to turn any of the seven power play opportunities they had into a goal, including a two-man advantage in the first period.

Warwick’s next game is Monday, December 22, against Palmyra at the Lancaster Ice Rink. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
