(Lititz, PA-LititzDailyNews.comI)-Warwick School District will close for two weeks to comply with Gov. Tom Wolf’s order temporarily closing all K-12 schools in Pennsylvania for the next 10 business days effective Monday, March 16, according to a statement by district superintendent Dr. April Hershey sent to families and posted on the district website.

School district pre-school programs throughout the state are also included in this closure, according to Pedro Rivera, Pennsylvania secretary of education.

Prior to the governor’s directive, the district notified families initially that it would close for one week beginning on Monday. It has since updated the notice appearing on the district’s website to indicate it will comply with the mandatory closing through Friday, March 27. According to the statement, Warwick schools will reopen on Monday, March 30.

The district’s initial post today confirmed its intention to hold performances of the high school’s spring musical, “Shrek,” starting tonight. That decision was made despite a directive from Gov. Wolf yesterday to cancel or postpone all gatherings where 250 people or more would be present. The latest district update indicates that all other information in the initial post stands.

LititzDailyNews.com has reached out to the district for clarification of whether it intends to still hold the musical as scheduled or whether it plans to postpone the performances until the schools reopen, but has not yet received a response.

SAT testing, scheduled to occur tomorrow morning at the high school, will go on as scheduled according to the district’s initial statement today. “Students can elect whether or not they wish to participate in the testing,” according to Dr. Hershey’s statement.

Students will not have to make up the days that schools will be closed.

“Because of the governor, schools no longer have to worry about the 180 [days] requirement,” Rivera said in the press conference.
