Governor Says Taxes the Issue Now

Governor Tom Corbett and First Lady Susan Corbett flew into Lancaster Airport in Lititz today to address supporters at an afternoon rally inside the terminal during a whirlwind tour of the state on the eve of the gubernatorial election.

In his remarks to supporters, Corbett said the election comes down to one word for Pennsylvanians: taxes.

“How much are you going to pay if (Wolf) were to be elected?” said Corbett.

The issue of taxes, coupled with Wolf’s refusal to provide firm numbers regarding his tax plan, seem to be causing poll numbers between the candidates to narrow. The latest polls have the Republican incumbent governor and the Democratic challenger, Tom Wolf, only seven percentage points apart.

Corbett highlighted his record in office, including the elimination of an inheritance tax on farms, allowing more families to maintain ownership of their small businesses, as well as Marcellus Shale legislation, which he noted has brought Pennsylvania from fifth in natural gas production when he took office to its current rank of second in the nation.

After meeting with the press, the Corbetts flew to Johnstown, PA for their fifth of seven rallies for the day.  The couple will wind up in Pittsburgh tonight, where they will spend they evening and vote in the morning at their hometown polling place in Shaler, PA.
