Lititz VFW Reopens
3-Month Suspension Ends, Changes in Place
The Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 has reopened after a three-month state suspension due to infraction of the national by-laws. In December 2014, some visitors to the post learned of the closure when they found a letter posted on each locked entrance to the facility located on North Spruce Street in Lititz. The state VFW also mailed letters to individual members.
Lititz Springs VFW Post 1463 reopened last week with significant changes in place.
“We have new leadership and they are in place to do Veterans of Foreign Wars work for veterans and the area,” said State Quartermaster John B. Getz, Jr.
Officers who presided over the post at the time of the suspension were removed, and a special election was held among members to appoint new leadership.
In a December interview with LititzDailyNews.com, Quartermaster Getz expressed the need for VFW posts to focus on serving veterans and their families.
“We need everybody to step up and be a VFW, not a bar,” Getz said in December. “Some VFW Posts have restaurant and bars, while others have only bars. “We need to get away from the bars,” he said.
During the post’s closure, members were directed to visit the Pennsylvania VFW website for appropriate contact information and other resources.
The post is now open for business, and local veterans can seek services once again at the facility.
“All aspects are in order we are committed to veterans and the community,” said Getz.
