The Rock Lititz Bike Race and Block Party rolls back into town today after a year hiatus, bigger than the last time racers tore threw town at top speeds.

“We have a hundred more riders this year,” said Race Director Rich Ruoff, bringing the number to close to 200 before walk-up registrations this morning. The event is free to spectators, and funds from registrations will be donated to two non-profit organizations.

Open to both amateur and professional cyclists, the Rock Lititz Bike Race features multiple races for all ages and abilities, as well as a non-competitive tour of rolling Lancaster County farmland in 20-mile, 40-mile, and 62-mile (100k) lengths.

The fast-paced highlight event for spectators on the streets of downtown Lititz takes place at 4:40 p.m., when pro cyclists will traverse the .8 mile course through Borough streets for 50 laps at speeds up to 30 mph. vying for a $5,000 prize.

The Block Party runs from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and features live music, special shopping, food trucks and a beer garden. There will be races for kids in addition to a bicycle handling skills course to help to prepare them for summer safety and fun.
