Talks Grandchildren, Adoption, and Election’s Far-reaching effects on the Family

While the title of Pennsylvania’s governor is up for grabs in tomorrow’s election that pits incumbent Republican Tom Corbett against Democratic challenger Tom Wolf, Gov. Corbett was in Lititz today speaking about yet another title which he plans to hold onto, one that isn’t subject to political polls or ballots.

“As you know when I ran four years ago, Sue and I did not have any grandchildren,” Gov. Corbett said to constituents in Lititz today on a campaign stop. The couple now has three grandsons. Liam, age 3, was adopted by his daughter as “a little two-day-old baby boy” whose mother had put him up for adoption.

“She didn’t choose the other option, she chose life,” said the governor, to rounds of applause.

In a rare personal moment, Corbett confided to the crowd how his grandson lifts his spirits.

“If ever I need to put a smile on my face, or (on) Sue’s face, I just reach into my pocket and pull out my cell phone and look at that picture of Liam, and watch how big he’s getting.” Gov. Corbett affectionately calls Liam “four-by-four.” “He’s over forty inches and he’s over forty pounds.”

The governor proudly announced that identical twin grandsons, Elliot and Theodore, were born “six weeks ago today” to their son. Susan Corbett shared photos of the couple’s three grandsons on her Facebook page on Halloween.

“In my mind, and particularly for a second term, this isn’t about re-election,” said the governor.  “It is about the future of Pennsylvania. It is about our children and our grandchildren,” he said.

In response to a question from LititzDailyNews.com after the rally, Gov. Corbett said that as a grandfather, he would have multiple concerns if Wolf were elected, including, “the environment of tax and spend that he’s going to create here, discouraging businesses here, (discouraging businesses) to come to Pennsylvania, (discouraging businesses) to stay in Pennsylvania, and the cost to the taxpayers of Pennsylvania,” said Corbett.
