One man was injured in a fire that broke out in a home on Lincoln Ave. this evening in Lititz. Firefighters from the Lititz Fire Company were called to the scene at 56 Lincoln Ave. to extinguish a grease fire that erupted on the stove and spread to the range hood and cabinets above.

The resident received burns to both hands and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, according to Deputy Chief Mike Smith of the Lititz Fire Company.

“He received some burns as a result of trying to put out the fire,” said Smith, who speculated that the burns might have occurred when the resident attempted to cover the burning pan with a lid.

By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the resident had extinguished much of the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

“He had done a great job knocking [the fire] down,” said Smith.

The Lititz company was assisted on the call by Brunnerville and Rothsville companies who stood by as Lititz firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

“We treat every situation as if its going to be a full house fire,” said the chief of the multiple  companies called to the blaze.  In this case, the resident’s prompt actions and having a fire extinguisher on hand helped to keep the fire from spreading.

The chief also credited the resident with taking quick action to get the two small children who were in the home to safety.

“He got them out of the house and over to next door,” said Smith.

The victim is currently in stable condition in the emergency room at Heart of Lancaster Hospital according to a nursing supervisor there.  He is expected to be hospitalized overnight.
