(Lititz, PA-LititzDailyNews.com) – A resident of Landis Homes in Lititz has died in a local hospital after contracting the COVID-19 virus.

“The Landis Homes resident who had tested positive for COVID-19 passed away this morning at the hospital,” said Michelle Rassler, executive director of Landis Homes, in a video update posted on Monday, March 30 to the Landis Homes Vimeo account (video embedded below story).

On March 26, Landis Homes management released a statement saying that a resident in the “west cottage” area of its facility had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and was in the hospital. The statement indicated that it was believed the risk of spread to other residents of the community was low, “as this resident has had very little contact with others.”

Landis Homes is home to almost 900 aging adults, according to the website for the 119-acre not-for-profit retirement community located on East Oregon Road in Lititz.

The highest mortality rate following confirmed infection with the COVID-19 virus is in older adults. According to the CDC, 8 out of 10 deaths reported in the United States so far have been in adults aged 65 and older.
