MAP Shows Intersections Prone to Traffic Accidents in 2015

Seven intersections have been identified by Lititz Borough Police Department as the most dangerous in the borough during 2015, according to a list provided by the department to Lititz Borough Council, who provided it to LititzDailyNews.com. The list was discussed at the monthly borough council meeting held last Tuesday in council chambers which was attended by Lititz Borough Police Chief William Seace and Sergeant Kerry Nye.

“The most dangerous intersections in the borough in 2015 were no surprise to anybody who lives here,” said Karen Weibel, president of Lititz Borough council, before reading off the list of intersections to media and members of the public in attendance at the February 23 meeting.

Five accidents occurred at the intersection of Oak and Main Streets during 2015, according to the list that is compiled annually which features the number of accidents reported to borough police.  A traffic signal controls the flow of traffic at the busy intersection.

The second most dangerous intersection was just up the road at Kissel Hill Road and Second Avenue, where four accidents were reported last year. Oak Street becomes Second Avenue as it crosses Kissel Hill. This dangerous intersection and its across-the-street counterpart Kissel Hill Rd and Second Ave. both made the list of most dangerous intersections. There is no traffic signal at the intersection. A stop sign is posted for drivers on Second Avenue and drivers on Oak Street, who must wait for the unrestricted traffic traveling north on Kissel Hill Road and entering southbound from Front Street to clear.

If accident data from both Kissel Hill Road and Second Avenue (four accidents) were combined with Kissel Hill Road and Oak Street (two accidents) the heavily-trafficked intersection that is devoid of a traffic signal would become the most dangerous intersection in Lititz Borough.

Three motor vehicle accidents were reported at the intersection of Broad and Sixth Streets during 2015. Other intersections making the list were Broad and Second Avenue, Broad and Orange Streets, Kissel Hill Road and Oak Street, and Cedar Street and Second Avenue, each with two reported accidents.

In addition to listing intersections considered dangerous, blocks of Lititz Borough roads where the highest number of accidents took place during 2015 were also highlighted by Weibel during the meeting. They are:
